From Quarry to Store From the earth to the showroom, granite has quite a journey. At a granite quarry, the rock is cut out of the earth hundreds of feet under the earth's surface, and lifted out by large cranes, which can hold up to 250 tons of rock.
World of Exotic Stones
The sizes cut can depend on the order the quarry is filling, but these large chunks of granite can be up to 50 feet in length. Many times, they are cut into more manageable slabs before being lifted out of the quarry. Once removed from the quarry, the slabs then go to a cutting room, where they are reduced in size to slabs that will go to Turuva Stone warehouse.
